India one of the most religiously and ethnically diverse nations in the world has had a long romance with performing art forms. This is evident from the facts that the Hindu Sanskrit texts N\u0101tya\u015b\u0101stra (Science of Dance) and Abhinaya Darpana (Mirror of Gesture) are estimated to be from 200 BCE to early centuries of the 1st millennium CE. Also, some of the oldest surviving Art forms –
eg: Thirayattam (Dance) and Kudiyattam (Drama) – has their origin dating back to 2 millennia or more.<\/p>\n

For this reason, India has one of the world\u2019s largest collections of ethnic & folk traditions, performing arts, rites and rituals, dance, theatre, songs, music, paintings and writings that are known, as the \u2018Intangible Cultural Heritage\u2019 (ICH) of humanity. However many of them are long forgotten or near extinct. At Ethnic Arts Council of India, it is our aim to bring back these long forgotten near extinct Ethnic, Folk and other intangible Art forms back to limelight, help them sustain and grow.<\/p>\n
